I have the pleasure to introduce you to our new wines that will hopefully make your summer gatherings even more fun than usual. Here in California we have experienced the coldest and wettest spring in the last 16 years. The weather has recently improved, however, and we look forward to a pleasant summer.
I am very aware that most of you have wonderful cellars filled with incredible wines. With today’s release, we offer you a few value alternatives that may please your guests at informal barbeques and summer gatherings around the corner – a nice change of pace without breaking the budget, something that we need in our lives every so often.
Most of you already know my Sauvignon Blanc and Rose’ of Pinot Noir. We are thrilled to also offer you our Matinee line of wines which are almost exclusively released to our restaurant clients, some of the finest restaurants in the United States and abroad. We made a few extra cases this year that we are making available to our mailing list. All Matinee wines are made with the same love, care, and attention as my single vineyard designate offerings. Our Matinee wines generally feature less new French oak (roughly 20-30%), making them perfect for earlier consumption in less formal settings. Some of you may have already tasted a Matinee bottle and enjoyed them for years, but for most of you it will be a new experience.

2018 "Le Jardin Secret" Grimm’s Bluff Sauvignon Blanc $55.00 This beautiful white wine comes from a stunning biodynamic vineyard, lovingly cared for by the Grimm family. This wine has a layered and complex nose of wet stone minerality, with nuances of grapefruit, gooseberry, and white flowers. It is pure and clean with laserbeam precision. Fully dry on the palate, with medium body and long complex flavors. Finishing with tantalizing acidity. Pure, refined, and artisanal, this wine is great as an aperitif, but will also provide great pleasure with a variety of seafood and vegetarian dishes. Unlike many Sauvignon Blancs, this wine will also age and for the next 7 to 10 years.
2017 "In Focus" Chardonnay Santa Barbara County $45.00 This wine is a blend of the finest Santa Barbara County vineyards, vinified in a classic French way, it was barrel fermented and aged for 18 months and bottled unfiltered. It possesses midbody with fine structure and refreshing acidity. It has a classic Santa Barbara tropical fruit, jasmine, light butterscotch, and toasted brioche. It is a very wholesome, satisfying, and complex wine. Very good on its own or paired with your summer barbecue, this is a perfect wine to drink on the front porch watching the sunset with friends.
2018 “Manga Girl” Sta Rita Hills, Rosé of Pinot Noir $35.00 RE-RELEASED for your summer pleasure Delightfully pink in color, this lively and vivacious Rosé opens with aromas of lilac, cranberry, and pomegranate. Dry on the palate with champagne-like acidity, it exhibits a unique balance of grapefruit zest, light spice, and a smooth raspberry finish. Rosé of Pinot Noir is one of the most versatile food wines. It pairs well with a variety of vegetarian dishes, as well as pasta, chicken, and fresh Californian cuisine. This is a great wine for celebrations like birthdays, weddings, and Fourth of July.
2016 “Matinee” Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County $40.00 Pleasant aromas of creamy golden apple and honeydew melon preface a lush, full bodied palate with notes of wet stone, yuzu lemon, and perfectly balanced acidity. The wine’s long, elegant, and focused finish showcases bright citrus and vanilla spice from the finest French oak. Enjoy this wine over the next 3 to 5 years.
2016 “Matinee” Grenache, Santa Barbara County $40.00 Dark color with a vibrant ruby red core. Pronounced nose beginning with notes of cassis, plum, and strawberry preserves, with deeper layers of leather and vanilla developing in the glass. Alluring, rich, and fine on the palate, it finishes with a touch of clove and white pepper. Aging gracefully over the next 5 to 10 years, this Grenache will pair perfectly with any meat at your summer barbecue.
2017 “Matinee” Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County $44.00 Fresh vibrant color with medium intensity. The nose is gracefully perfumed with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and delicate rose petals. This wine is elegant and flavorful, with a touch of spice and smooth tannin. Ready to drink now in its exuberant youth, but will improve over the next 5 to 7 years.
